CHEMICAL PEELS

What is the treatment:

Chemical peels use a chemical solution, typically containing acids, to remove the top layers of the skin. The peeling depth can be superficial, medium or deep. Chemical peels are crucial for exfoliating the skin, reducing signs of aging, and addressing pigmentation issues. This controlled exfoliation prompts the regeneration of new skin cells by enhancing cell turnover, revealing smoother, more even-toned skin. Chemical peels are effective for treating fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, rough skin texture and uneven pigmentation.

How long is the treatment:

15 to 30 minutes

Pre-care Instructions:

Avoid sun exposure and skincare products containing active ingredients such as retinol and vitamin C at least 3 days before the treatment. The skin may need to be prepped for at least 2 weeks prior if the skin is sensitive or ‘naive’ to active skin ingredients.

How will the procedure be performed:

The chemical peel procedure typically involves the following steps:

Cleansing: The skin is cleansed to remove any surface oils and impurities.

Pre-peel solution or degreaser: A pre-peeling solution is applied over the skin to ensure even penetration of the peel once it is applied.

Application of Chemical Solution: The chemical peel solution is applied to the skin, and the type and strength of the solution vary based on the desired outcome. 

Peeling Process: Time-dependent peels must be kept on the skin for the recommended duration. Layer-dependent peels must be kept on the skin until frosting is noted.

Neutralization: The peel is neutralized, stopping the chemical reaction.

Post-Peel Care: Post-peel skin care such as masks and moisturizers are applied to calm and soothe the skin, and assist with skin healing.

Sun Protection: The skin needs extra protection after a skin treatment. We always end the procedure off with applying a broad-spectrum high SPF 50 sunscreen.

Post-care Instructions:

Apply the recommended post-peel skin care and protect your skin from the sun. Avoid touching the face excessively. Follow a gentle skincare routine and avoid any active skin ingredients for 5 to 7 days after the peel. You can apply makeup the next day.

Onset of the Effect:

Peeling may occur, depending on the depth of exfoliation and chemicals used, on day 2 or 3 after the peel and can last for up to 7 days. Improvements in the skin texture and radiance are visible after a week.

Duration of the Results:

Several months to a year, depending on the peel's depth and the frequency of the chemical peels.

How often should you do the treatment:

Every 4 to 6 weeks. 6 sessions are recommended. Great combination treatment with microneedling.

Level of discomfort:

Mild to moderate, depending on the peel depth.
